Unmet Transit Needs Process

SRTA is responsible for allocating Transportation Development Act funds for public transportation services within the region. Each year the Unmet Transit Needs process is carried out to identify and evaluate any potential needs that are not being met through existing public transportation services.

A public hearing on Shasta Region Unmet Transit Needs will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at 3:00 p.m., to review unmet transit needs at the SRTA Salmon Room, 1255 East Street, Suite 202, Redding, California.  Requests for transit service and other comments may be submitted at the public hearing as well as by email, telephone, or letter.

For the February 23 public hearing:

  • Email comments to questions@srta.ca.gov.  If possible, please submit your comments prior to the Transit Needs Assessment agenda item to ensure timely consideration.  Please limit your written comments to 250 words or less.
  • Submit public comments by U.S. Mail to Administrative Associate Amy Lindsey, Shasta Regional Transportation Agency, 1255 East Street, Suite 202, Redding, CA, 96001, to arrive no later than 5:00 p .m., one day prior to the meeting.
  • If you would like to participate in SRTA board meetings virtually or by telephone, how-to-connect instructions will be available the day of the meeting on SRTA website homepage at www.srta.ca.gov.

SRTA requests your input on unmet transit needs in the Shasta Region, including any needs not being met by the Redding Area Bus Authority (RABA), Burney Express, and Dignity Health Connected Living, including Shasta Connect.

What happens to suggestions I make during an Unmet Transit Needs Cycle?

​Comments are accepted at any time, but are formally considered once a year through the annual Unmet Transit Needs process. Unmet transit needs may be funded if the answer to all of the following questions is yes. 

a) Does it meet SRTA’s definition of an “Unmet Transit Need”?
b) Does it meet SRTA’s definition of “Reasonable to Meet”?
c) Is funding available?
